Dr. Li Cai is an organic chemist and glyco-scientist whose research focuses on carbohydrate chemistry, enzymatic synthesis of carbohydrates, and chemical glycobiology. He joined USC Salkehatchie in 2011 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2016. Dr. Cai is also devoted to enhancing the teaching and learning of chemistry, which includes advising undergraduate researches. Dr. Cai initiated an undergraduate chemical research program centered in Walterboro campus. His mentoring of undergraduate researchers also produced a Chemistry Magellan Scholar Award and two internship awards from South Carolina STEPs to STEM program for this USC Palmetto College campus.
